Kid at the meet last month had a BK 3.8 parked next to a DE-swapped Z33, and he spent twenty minutes explaining why his car was faster. He was right. That's what makes it sad.

The Genesis Coupe is the easy grab — cheap, newer, and the 3.8 Lambda makes real power (306 in the first cars, 348 once Hyundai went direct injection in 2013). On a spec sheet it beats an '03 Z with 287 out of the VQ35DE. On the classifieds it looks like free money.

Then you go to buy anything for it. One coilover option that isn't a gamble. A handful of forums that went quiet in 2018. Half the fitment threads are dead photobucket links. Meanwhile the Z33 has fifteen years of people who already made every mistake for you and wrote it down, and the parts shelf never emptied out.

That's the real difference. Both cars are 5x114.3, both are RWD coupes with a six-speed, both will hold a slide. Only one of them has a scene that keeps the used market alive and the knowledge free.

The honest catch: a $9k Z is a 20-year-old car. Budget for it. Oil consumption on early DEs, tired synchros on the CD009, and the '03-'04 cars run a viscous LSD instead of the good clutch-type stuff. Buy the '07+ HR if you can — 306hp, revs to 7,500, better everything.
