#WesternMustangs Women’s Volleyball 🏐 student-athlete Nyla Tukker spent her summer taking her game to another level after being selected to volleyballcanada’s Next Gen Beach National Team program. 🍁

The soon-to-be third-year Mustang was one of 12 athletes selected for the summer team, gaining the opportunity to train and compete in beach volleyball at a high level while developing as an athlete and teammate. 

“This summer I was selected to be a part of the Canadian Beach National summer team, along with 11 other girls. It has been a very fun experience and I am really grateful for the opportunity to train and play beach volleyball at a high level. Seeing myself grow as an athlete, person and teammate has been rewarding to say the least.”

For Tukker, some of the best moments came from the people she met along the way.

“My favourite part has been making so many new friends and meeting a bunch of really cool and like-minded people!”

Now, she’s looking forward to bringing that experience back to the Mustangs when the 2026-27 season gets underway in late October at Thompson Arena, Mustangs Volleyball's temporary home while Alumni Hall undergoes renovations.

“While beach volleyball and indoor are different from one another in a lot of ways, I think all of the time and work I have put in training this summer will transfer well as I get back into indoor this September with my teammates at Western!”
