On this date in 1973, #TheDailyIllini had quite the headline: “Beer allowed in dorms.”

The policy would allow students 19 and older to have beer and wine in private living areas beginning Oct. 1, when a new Illinois law took effect. That era was relatively short-lived: in 1980, Illinois raised the drinking age back to 21.
