16 Years of North Coast. Chicago’s Last Stand of Summer. 

Swipe through these posters and you’re basically looking at a time capsule of the last 16 years of music in Chicago.

In September 2010, a new locally produced festival called North Coast Music Festival took over Union Park for Labor Day weekend and called itself “Summer’s Last Stand.” That first lineup was ridiculous: The Chemical Brothers, Nas & Damian Marley, Moby, De La Soul, Lupe Fiasco, Pretty Lights, Benny Benassi, Paul van Dyk, Flying Lotus, Green Velvet, Boys Noize, Phantogram and more. 

And somehow, that was only the beginning.

Look closely through the old posters and you start realizing just how many different eras of music passed through North Coast. 

But what made North Coast special was that it never really fit into one box. Electronic music could sit next to hip-hop. Jam bands next to house. A Chicago legend could share a poster with an artist who was about to become one of the biggest names in the world. In 2018 alone, the bill stretched from Miguel and Axwell & Ingrosso to Juice WRLD, Vulfpeck, DJ Snake, RL Grime, Jamiroquai and Rapsody.

Chicago was always part of its DNA. You see lupefiasco, officialgreenvelvet , felixdahousecat, thecoolxkids, juicewrld999 , roncarrollbmc and countless other Chicago artists woven through these posters alongside international headliners. 

For its first nine years, North Coast turned Union Park into the final party of every Chicago summer. The festival later moved to Northerly Island and eventually to its current home at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, where North Coast is celebrating its 16th edition in 2026.
