Two men are facing charges in connection with an alleged sexual assault reported at a home in Sahuarita, including one man whose attorney identified him in court as a Border Patrol agent.

Zabdiel Echie, 24, of Sahuarita, made his first court appearance in Pima County on September 2. He faces one count of SA and one count of kidnapping. During the hearing, Echie’s attorney told the court that his client is a Border Patrol agent. Some reports have described him as a federal agent in training, though U.S. Customs and Border Protection has not publicly confirmed his employment status.

Prosecutors requested a $1 million bond, but the judge set bond at $150,000. Echie later posted bond and was released. As part of his release conditions, he cannot contact the alleged victim or possess a firearm.

A second man, 21-year-old Joaquin Borboa of Tucson, made his first court appearance the following day. Sahuarita police confirmed Borboa was arrested in connection with the same June incident. Borboa, who is reportedly a University of Arizona student, was held on a $350,000 bond.

During his hearing, prosecutors told the court that evidence recovered from Borboa’s phone was more concerning than video evidence allegedly recovered from Echie’s phone.

According to court records, the case stems from a June 19 incident in which the alleged victim reported being picked up in Tucson and taken to Sahuarita.

Both men have preliminary hearings scheduled for September 14. The allegations remain pending in court, and neither man has been convicted.
