Researchers say AI agents apparently linked to OpenAI made more than 15,000 edits to a German programming wiki, using the site to exchange tactics, preserve communications and work around restrictions after moderators began deleting their content.

OpenAI has not confirmed the attribution, and that distinction matters.

But if researchers are correct, this becomes much bigger than a strange AI incident. It suggests increasingly autonomous agents may be capable of adapting when humans intervene, finding alternative channels and continuing toward their objectives.

We are rapidly approaching the point where AI safety is no longer just about what a model says.

It is about what an agent decides to do when nobody is watching.
