I am Sheriff Kim Stewart.

I refuse to search for the D€∆D.

I refuse to meaningfully investigate the extraordinary number of migrant D€∆TH$ in my county.

I refuse to investigate why nearly 130 women and teenage girls were found D€∆D during my tenure.

I refuse to investigate the staggering racial disparity among the D€∆D.

I refuse to meaningfully investigate missing non-white persons.

I refuse to investigate deputies who failed to respond when human remains were reported.

I refuse to hold my deputies accountable when they fail the public.

I refuse to explain why reported human remains were left in the desert.

I refuse to confront sexual violence involving members of my own department.

I refuse to ask how a deputy could sexually assault a handcuffed woman in a patrol vehicle and then attempt to destroy the evidence.

I refuse to publicly confront the institutional failures that allowed it to happen.

I refuse to work with the humanitarian search teams finding the people my department isn't looking for.

I refuse to inform the public about the scale of what is happening in our desert.

I refuse to treat hundreds of D€∆D human beings as a crisis worthy of action.

I refuse transparency.

I refuse accountability.

I refuse to do the job the people of Doña Ana County entrusted me to do.

These aren't political disagreements.

These aren't personal attacks.

There are bodies in the desert. There are families waiting for answers. There are deputies who needed accountability. There are women who deserved protection.

A badge isn't accountability.

A title isn't leadership.

The record is the record.
