🚨 LIVE tomorrow, September 7th! 🚨

On episode #441 of Dave Tate’s Table Talk Podcast, Dave sits down with Patrick Maguire.

Patrick Maguire is a professional superheavyweight powerlifter out of Manchester, New Hampshire, and this is his second time at the Table Talk table.

Patrick’s competition bests are a 1,014 lb squat, a 635 lb bench, and a 772 lb deadlift, with a career-best total of 2,342 lb in wraps. He was formerly the All-Time World Record holder in the teen raw bench press at 545 lb — set when he was nineteen — and was once the youngest lifter to squat 1,005 lb. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics, has coached for nearly a decade, narrates audiobooks on Audible, has called big-money powerlifting broadcasts, and is writing a fantasy novel. He is currently sponsored by nobody, which is exactly why this conversation goes where it goes.

Five weeks before this recording, Patrick flew to Ontario for a 15-lifter pro invitational and finished tenth — with a 154 lb squat. In this episode he tells Dave what happened, why he finished the meet anyway, and what a man does when his best total is three years old and thirty is coming fast. Along the way: why “it takes mass to move mass” is a lie, what a math degree tells you about the coefficients quietly reshaping the sport, whether a machine can program you better than a coach, and — because he asked for it — penguins.
