This week’s #FirstieFriday is MIDN 1/C Michael McGrath.

With the Brigade’s Physical Readiness Test (PRT) coming up this weekend, we are recognizing MIDN McGrath. From Jacksonville, Florida and majoring in chemistry, MIDN McGrath serves as the Brigade Physical Mission Officer and is responsible for maintaining the U.S. Naval Academy’s high standards of physical readiness around the Yard. 

Excited to commission into the Navy at the end of the year, he has reflected on his intentions for wanting to attend the Naval Academy. 

“As a kid, I wanted to come here to serve my country. Since being here my “why” has changed to include the people here. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by like-minded people that strive to excel in all areas.”

As a member of the USNA Endurance team, he enjoys going on runs and cooking good food. His favorite memory from his time at the Academy was going through the evolutions of Sea Trials with his classmates as a Plebe. MIDN McGrath’s favorite summer training opportunity was serving as a Plebe Summer detailer during his 2/C and 1/C summers, as a squad leader and a company commander.
