There’s five women on the entire forested island and only one boat to rescue them if something were to go wrong. Each of the women is already disappearing one by one. 

“The Unknown,” by Riley Sager, was released Aug. 4 and is Sager’s 22nd thriller novel. The book is set on an island, New Avalon, in the middle of a lake in Vermont. On this same island in 1926, five women mysteriously disappeared, but the bodies were never found. 

Decades later, a famous director, Ronan Peters, has decided to make a horror film reenacting these disappearances. The movie is supposed to be based on the actual recovered diary that was written by the last of the five women to disappear, Daisy Rue.
