Imagine playing a game where you score 89 points and your friend scores 80. Then someone tells you that you both get the same score.

You’d probably wonder why you bothered getting the extra nine.

That’s what happens with grades at SM East. An 89.4% and an 80% are both B’s, meaning both are worth a 3.0 on an unweighted GPA. But while the student with an 89.4% is only 0.1 percentage points away from an A, the student with an 80% is 9.5 points away.
