3 common misconceptions about homesteaders 👇 ❌ We’re all completely self-sufficient. Would it be cool to never need anyone for anything? Maybe. But complete self-sufficiency is REALLY hard and honestly, I don’t think that’s even the goal for most homesteaders. Most of us aren’t trying to completely unplug from society. We’re just trying to become a little less reliant on the system and a little more capable of providing for ourselves. ❌ We’re all crunchy health nuts who never eat junk food. I might be in the minority here because I definitely enjoy my fair share of fast food and Little Debbies 😂 And while I do think a lot of people get into homesteading because they want better food and a healthier lifestyle, that doesn’t mean we’re living on sourdough and raw milk 24/7. Even the crunchiest of the crunchy probably has a secret junk-food weakness. ❌ Homesteading always saves you money. Sometimes it absolutely can. Other times you’ll spend six months, countless hours, and way too much money growing something you could’ve bought at the store for 39 cents 🙃But saving money isn’t always the point. You’re choosing to produce something yourself, learn how it was made, and hopefully end up with a quality product you’re proud of. That comes at a cost. There’s no such thing as a free egg. 🥚 I guess my point is that homesteading isn’t about being perfectly self-sufficient, perfectly healthy, or perfectly frugal. It’s about becoming a little more capable, a little more intentional, and maybe a little better than you were yesterday. Nobody HAS to do everything. But I think there’s a lot of value in learning to do something for yourself and for me, that’s what homesteading is really about. #homestead #myth #garden #food #shilohfarm
