Once the Neville D’Souza Ground was permanently sealed and handed over for conversion to a state-of-the-art convention centre, frustrated footballers started lobbying for other locations. As a MHADA official explained, the ground was created as a “temporary measure”, and designating this land as a permanent playground was “BMC’s mistake”.

In order to rectify this mistake, the footballers were presented with a few interesting options. One was part of the almost 103.65 ( approximately 145 football fields ) hectares of forest and mangrove land to be impacted for major infrastructure projects in Mumbai, specifically the Versova-Bhayandar Coastal Road project. The other option fit snugly between the Harbour and Central lines of Dadar station, although the attrition rate of both footballs and footballers proved quite high. The salt pan field was deemed not too useful owing to the blinding glare at mid-day. By far the most charitable proposal was a sky-field from a prominent business family in the city, yet to be realised.
