At Dignity Health, we want you to be in the know this #SepsisAwarenessMonth. 🩺 Because sepsis can progress to organ failure in a matter of hours, proactive prevention and knowing the signs can mean the difference between a full recovery and a life-altering medical crisis.

Sepsis—the body’s extreme response to an infection—is a "time-dependent emergency" and consistently one of the leading causes of hospitalization in Arizona. It remains one of the most misunderstood medical emergencies today.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services (azdhs), many sepsis-related complications seen in Phoenix-area emergency rooms start as minor illnesses (like a UTI or a small wound) that weren't treated quickly enough. The good news? Sepsis is treatable if caught early.

Know the signs (T.I.M.E.): 🌡️ T - Temperature: Higher or lower than normal. 🤒 I - Infection: You may have signs of an infection. 🧠 M - Mental Decline: Confused, sleepy, or slurred speech. 🆘 E - Extremely Ill: Often described by patients as a feeling of "impending doom." ➡️Swipe through for prevention tips, risk factors, and what to watch for.

If you or a loved one are experiencing these symptoms, do not wait. Seek emergency medical care immediately and verbally ask the care team: "Could this be sepsis?"

Time is everything. 🗒️ This information is for educational purposes only.
