Umayyad Mosque | الجامع الأموي
Built between 705–715 CE under Caliph Al-Walid I, on the site of a Roman temple to Jupiter and later a Byzantine church dedicated to John the Baptist. It stands as one of the oldest and most significant mosques in the Islamic world, housing a shrine believed to contain the head of Prophet Yahya (John the Baptist), alongside the Minaret of Jesus tied to Islamic end-times tradition.

Today, the mosque remains the living heart of Old Damascus — where worshippers, visitors, and seekers of stillness converge, a testament to layers of history that never went silent.
