Getting started with night photography might seem complicated, but with a little bit of direction, you can capture stunning images of the night sky.

First, it’s important to have a camera that performs well in low light. Typically, full-frame cameras perform better in low light and can capture more detail with less noise. Then, look for an ultra-wide lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or greater. This will help you to gather more light, which ultimately results in a cleaner image.

Then, grab your sturdy tripod and check out our video on focusing in the dark. Once you’ve set focus, fire away! Review the image to ensure it is in focus, and adjust the ISO as needed to make it brighter or darker.
