6/2/2023 Spencer Firefighters responded to the First Congregational Church on Main Street for a building fire. A fast moving thunderstorm had just pasted thru the area that weather forecasters reported produced a large amount of lightning strikes in the area.

The rest unfortunately is history. Fire consumed the church built in mid 1800's very rapidly.

Mutual aid was brought in from lots of surrounding communities and companies remained on scene overnight while a demolition crew was brought in.
