Canada is joining several European nations to ban trade in goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements‼️😳

Canada, the United Kingdom and France are among a group of 12 countries announcing measures targeting trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

In a joint statement released Tuesday, the countries said they “will bring forward national measures to ban trade in settlement goods,” while condemning the rapidly deteriorating situation in the West Bank.

The countries accused the Israeli government of enabling settler violence and expanding settlements, describing recent actions as “tantamount to the annexation of Palestinian land and forcible displacement of the Palestinian population.”

The announcement comes after Canada issued an advisory last month warning Canadian businesses of potential legal and financial risks associated with commercial activities linked to Israeli settlements.

Israel has strongly criticized the measures. Israeli President Isaac Herzog reportedly characterized the international move as interference amid Israel’s ongoing national election.
