Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, is an American rapper and songwriter from Chicago, born October 19, 1992. He became one of the leading figures associated with Chicago drill, blending street-focused rap with a more melodic, Auto-Tuned style. 

He first gained attention through mixtapes such as Signed to the Streets and founded the rap collective/label Only the Family (OTF). His mainstream popularity grew substantially around 2020–2022 through collaborations with artists including Drake and Lil Baby and albums such as The Voice, The Voice of the Heroes, and 7220. 

One of his biggest songs is “All My Life” featuring J. Cole, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance. 

Lil Durk has also had significant legal issues. He was arrested in October 2024 and has faced federal m***er-for-hire charges; as of 2026, the case has been proceeding through federal court.

Lil Durk and King Von were extremely close both personally and musically. Durk founded Only The Family (OTF), and after Von came home from jail, Durk helped bring him into the music business and signed him to OTF. Von quickly became one of the label’s biggest artists after “Crazy Story” took off. Durk described Von as already being part of his family personally before the music relationship developed, and the two collaborated on several records. 

As of September 7, 2026, Durk’s situation is extremely serious: his federal trial is happening right now in Los Angeles. He was originally arrested in October 2024, and prosecutors allege that he was involved in arranging a 2022 attempt to kill Quando Rondo as retaliation for Von’s death. Quando Rondo survived the 2022 incident, while his cousin Saviay’a Robinson (Lul Pab) was killed. Durk has pleaded not guilty and denies orchestrating the plot.
