Rolls-Royce engineered the retractable hood ornament to prevent theft and protect pedestrians in the event of an impact.

Applying pressure or attempting to grab the figurine triggers high-speed internal tension springs that drop the ornament below the bonnet line.

The mechanism operates so rapidly that it’s virtually impossible to snatch or snap the ornament off by hand.

When the vehicle is locked or shut off, the Spirit of Ecstasy stays safely housed inside the grille, away from potential vandals.

It serves as a constant reminder that Rolls-Royce thinks through every microscopic detail of vehicle ownership.
