The COVID-19 pandemic began with an outbreak of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan, China, in late 2019. 
Approximately 7 million confirmed deaths have been reported globally, but comprehensive public health estimates suggest the true cumulative toll of “excess mortality” is closer to 15 to 18 million lives lost. In the United States, over 1.2 million deaths were officially attributed to the virus. 

The exact origin remains heavily debated, with two primary theories investigated by scientists and intelligence agencies: Allegedly 👇🏽

1. Natural Animal-to-Human Spillover (Zoonotic Origin)
The Theory: The virus originated in bats and jumped to humans, possibly through an intermediate wild animal host. 

The Location: Many early human cases clustered around the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, which sold live, susceptible wild animals. 

The Evidence: Environmental samples from cages, carts, and drains at the market tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, supporting the idea that infected animals passed the virus to people there. 

2. Laboratory Incident (Lab Leak)
The Theory: The virus accidentally escaped or leaked from a research facility in Wuhan, such as the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which studied coronaviruses. 

The Evidence: Some government reports and intelligence agencies have considered a laboratory accident as a plausible source due to the city hosting major coronavirus research laboratories. 

The Consensus: Most intelligence and scientific evaluations note there is still no definitive or conclusive proof for either scenario, and investigations continue.
