Real Madrid football club has deleted a social media post which caused controversy in China. ⁣
On August 30, the club’s players held a minute’s silence before their home match against Malaga. The club’s official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted a picture with the caption "A moment of silence at the Bernabéu for the victims of floods in Nepal and Tibet."⁣
Equating the sovereign country of Nepal with the autonomous Chinese region of Xizang caused much offence in China, where a 2019 EU report estimated there are more than 125 million Real Madrid fans. ⁣
On September 3, the post was deleted. The original link now shows "page not found."⁣
