Former Labour leader and independent UK MP Jeremy Corbyn has criticised the growing diplomatic dispute between Britain and Israel following the UK’s decision to ban goods from illegal Israeli settlements.

Israel responded by banning 11 British MPs from entering the country, a move Corbyn described as an attempt to prevent British politicians from seeing conditions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Corbyn supports the UK’s restrictions on settlement goods but says the government should go further by ending arms exports and military cooperation with Israel.

He also rejects accusations that criticism of Israel or the Israeli military is antisemitic, arguing that opposition to government and military policies should not be conflated with hostility towards Jewish people.

Speaking about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Corbyn calls for governments to uphold international law and the Genocide Convention and argues that the occupation of Palestinian territories must end.
