"One of my favorite shots/scenes from Carolina Caroline is the green phone booth. I think it was originally scripted at an exterior phone booth of a filling station, but while scouting, we passed by a pretty rundown laundromat that caught my attention. I love these kinds of raw locations. We had a couple of scenes where Carolina called her dad, but that phone call was a pivotal moment. It is at that moment that the story crosses the point of no return. I wanted that moment to stand out stylistically while keeping it feel dirty.

I pitched to the_good_reverend13 (director) to go with the laundromat and asked francescampalombo (production designer) to add these classic neon lights in the windows. She brought these amazing flexible faux neon RGB LED strips, and we filled the laundromat fluorescent overhead fixtures (interior and exterior) with our 16 asteraofficial Titan tubes. I wanted to get that green mercury-vapor a la Robby Müller raw look. We then added a Fillex P3c light to push more green as the key on samweaving . To break the monochromatic look, we used a dmglighting DASH with the dot to fill from the bottom with a warm tungsten look motivated by their muscle car parked in the wide shot. For that wide shot, we used two par can hidden in front of the car to fake the headlights, a nanlux_official 1200c on an 80 ft condor and some Creamsource vortex to light the rain and to create that colder night glow. The final touch was definitely that complementary red open sign added by Francesca."
