They recorded real physical therapists, tracking every movement and every ounce of force in their hands during rehab sessions.

The hard part wasn't movement, it was force. 

A good therapist feels how hard you're trying and adjusts help in real time. 

So MIT trained an AI on the relationship between a patient's motion and effort.

Now the robot adjusts assistance based on how hard the patient is already pushing, instead of repeating one fixed motion.
