Mike Gundy, a former Oklahoma State quarterback, served as the Cowboys’ head coach from 2005 until his mid-season firing in September 2025, compiling a program-record 170–90 mark over 21 seasons and transforming the team into a consistent Big 12 contender. 

He delivered the school’s only Big 12 title in 2011, eight 10-win seasons, five New Year’s Six bowl appearances, 12 bowl victories, and 18 consecutive winning seasons from 2006–2023, while developing standout players who earned major national awards and producing more than 40 NFL draft picks. 

Known for his colorful personality and long tenure at his alma mater, Gundy earned multiple Big 12 Coach of the Year honors and national awards in 2011, but the program declined sharply with a 3–9 record in 2024 and a 1–2 start in 2025 that led to his dismissal as the winningest coach in Oklahoma State history.
