Look at her. She is not posing – she is discovering. Her hands rise, unprompted, to the tiara; in a room full of voices, she alone is silent, meeting the bride she is about to become. This is the photograph an Italian wedding magazine chose to print, with a caption worth translating: ‘Princesses in dreams and in life.’

I have spent my career waiting for perfect, unguarded moments like this one – many years ago, it was I who introduced the concept of wedding photojournalism to Italy.
Unposed wedding reportage existed in isolated cases, but no one had yet formulated its precise theory – with parameters to stay within, or step outside of, knowingly.

Since then my language has evolved, flowing into ‘narrative photography’: not single photographs – capturing moments is not enough – but coordinated sequences. A story.

Before photography, there was early music: fourteen years on the concert stage, the first concert at sixteen, recorder, wind instruments, cello, violone, keyboards. When I photograph you, it will still show.

Every story I tell has a rhythm: its introduction, movements, pauses, finale – like a sonata or a concerto for solo instruments.
With this way of pacing a story, in April 2010 I was named ‘Best Italian Wedding Photographer’ by White Sposa Magazine and Tau Visual – Associazione Nazionale Fotografi Professionisti – in a special contest.

This method – narrative photography – is what I offer you: a living story, not frozen moments.

‘Princesses in dreams and in life’, the magazine titled it – the phrase came ready-made.
But there is more. That day, the dream will take real form: a love sealed by a covenant, a new family born – a stronghold against the snares of the world; documented in images – without pretence.
This is my duty as a narrative photographer: to keep alive the feelings you will live on your day – so you may come back to see them.

I am serenely aware of this responsibility – and this is where we begin.
