Revered for his commanding bass voice and presence, James Earl Jones defined generations through iconic film roles like Darth Vader in Star Wars (1977), Terence Mann in Field of Dreams (1989), Mr. Mertle in The Sandlot (1993), and Mufasa in The Lion King (1994), alongside his Emmy-winning TV lead in Gabriel’s Fire (1990–1991). Overcoming a severe childhood stutter, he earned EGOT status through competitive and honorary honors, was awarded the National Medal of Arts, and had Broadway’s Cort Theatre renamed in his honor in 2022.
