🍷🌊 What if one of Europe’s most fascinating wine destinations has been hiding in plain sight?

Welcome to Lake Constance (Bodensee) golakeconstance: a lake at the heart of Europe, surrounded by Germany 🇩🇪, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Austria 🇦🇹, with Liechtenstein 🇱🇮 completing the wider four-country region.

What makes it so interesting for wine lovers? One lake connects different landscapes, cultures and wine traditions into one remarkably seamless journey.

I explored the German and Swiss sides, moving between vineyards, wineries and historic towns by train, bus, ferry and on foot. The scenery changed. The wines changed. The traditions changed. Yet somehow, it all felt like one connected destination.

And the wines deserve attention. 🍇 From vineyards overlooking the lake to family-run wineries and historic cellars, this is a region full of discoveries: with Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder/Blauburgunder) and Müller-Thurgau/Riesling-Sylvaner among the varieties you’ll encounter along the way.

What makes tasting here particularly interesting is how the lake, altitude and different vineyard landscapes shape the wines from one shore to the next, giving you a reason to keep exploring beyond a single winery or village.

But perhaps what surprised me most was how naturally wine fits into the entire experience. Lake, vineyards, villages, ferries, food and wine culture aren’t separate reasons to visit, they are all part of the same journey.

One lake. Different countries. Different expressions of wine. One unforgettable wine destination.

Save this for your European wine travel bucket list. ✈️

And stay tuned for more!
