On September 8, 1996, reigning FIFA World Player of the Year George Weah produced what remains one of the most iconic solo goals in European football during AC Milan’s Serie A opener against Hellas Verona at San Siro.

The "Coast-to-Coast" Goal
In the 86th minute, an overhit Hellas Verona corner dropped deep inside Milan’s 18-yard box. Weah cushioned the ball on his foot and immediately accelerated forward into wide open turf. Reaching the center circle completely unhindered, he was converged upon by two tracking Verona defenders. A trailing challenge grazed the ball, but Weah maintained stride, completed a swift spin past both defenders, and sprinted away from the backline. After breezing past the remaining defender, he carried the ball into the Verona penalty area and slotted a right-footed shot across goalkeeper Attilio Gregori inside the far post.
