Fernando Hierro delivered one of his most iconic international performances for Spain 🇪🇸 against Switzerland 🇨🇭 in the Round of 16 at the 1994 FIFA World Cup on July 2, 1994, at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

​Operating in midfield under manager Javier Clemente, Hierro set the tone early with a brilliant individual run in the 15th minute.

Collecting possession near the halfway line, he drove forward through the center of the Swiss midfield, bypassed the defense with a sharp burst of pace, and slotted a composed finish past Swiss goalkeeper Marco Pascolo.

​Hierro's dominance in ball recovery and distribution controlled the remainder of the match as Spain cruised to a 3–0 win, with subsequent goals added by Luis Enrique and Txiki Begiristain. The victory sent Spain into the quarter-finals against Italy.
