Marcel "Marco" van Basten remains one of the most clinical and tactically complete centre-forwards in football history. Making his senior Ajax debut on the 3rd April 1982 by substituting on for Johan Cruyff and scoring immediately, Van Basten established a decade of domestic and continental dominance before chronic ankle injuries forced his final match at age 28 and retirement at 30.
