Beginning August 29, The Director of City of Detroit General Services Department Sandra Yu Stahl , who is responsible for directing the coolest city department in the nation that works so hard to Keep Detroit Beautiful and Clean while bringing the fun🤩🎉, will become our new Chief Procurement Officer.

Sandra prioritizes opportunities for Detroiters, equity in access to information, effective leadership and efficient policy, goals that will benefit Detroiters greatly in our procurement process.

Her leadership has brought systematic improvements to both City of Detroit General Services Department and Detroit Parks & Recreation.

We are excited to see her bring her leadership to the Office of Contracting and Procurement.

We are confident that she will be a true asset to our city in her new position.

We interviewed Sandra during women’s history month😁 Take a look 👀 ⬇️

Q: What does being a woman mean to you?

A: Being a woman is a balancing act! Balancing roles as wife, mother, professional; balancing perceptions, expectations, and my own strong personality as a female in leadership👩🏻👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻🤰🏻💼

Q:How are you making history as a woman every day?

A: As the Director of the General Services Department, my hope is that being a department director as a working mom of young children (ages 4, 4 and 2, with another on the way), we find creative and compassionate ways to make both GSD a good place to work for mothers and that as a department, we do our part to make this City a great place to live for families and children. I think this is all the more important during a challenging time like we are in now, with the pandemic. That's why I'm excited about re-growing our summer camp program, creating and maintaining safe and beautiful public spaces, working with the Community Education Commission to expand Goal Line, and raising hundreds of GSD positions to a minimum of $15/hr🔥🔥

Q: Who is your inspiration?

A: My parents, who immigrated from Korea in their twenties and raised 3 kids in a new country while learning a new language while working 60-70 hours a week
