INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY ✨📖

Meet Kirsten Schmutzer, a junior who has taken her love for literacy outside of Pi Phi! Read a little more about what literacy means to her!

“I didn’t fully realize my passion for literacy until I joined Pi Phi. Through Read > Lead > Achieve, I’ve had the opportunity to work with young readers through Reading Allies and Pen Pals. Those experiences have inspired me to find even more ways to encourage a love of reading in my community, whether that’s building and maintaining my own Little Free Library, participating in local literacy events, or simply reading aloud to children. Each experience has shown me that something as simple as sharing a book or encouraging a young reader can make a lasting impact!

As an Elementary Education major, my experiences with literacy have also shaped the kind of teacher I hope to become. Through substitute teaching and working with young readers, I’ve seen how literacy can build confidence, create opportunities, and shape a child’s future. I’m truly blessed for the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of young readers!”
