## Caption

The Pomato sounds like something from a science fiction garden, but the concept is real. It is created through grafting, joining a tomato shoot with a compatible potato rootstock so the plant can produce tomatoes above ground and potatoes underground. Because tomato and potato belong to the same plant family, Solanaceae, their tissues can be grafted successfully. The result is not a genetic hybrid, but two crops growing from one grafted plant.
