Oh boy. This one hurts. I mean in my childhood there were two TV dads that stood out. James Evans and Bill Cosby. Both were important. John Amos was the perfect image of masculinity and fatherly love with the right amount of vulnerability. His character was pivotal and so important in the series Good Times and I missed him immensely when they gave him an unwarranted and unceremonious off screen death. The show was never the same. When the phone call came and Florida Evans played by the wonderful Ester Rolle took the bad news it was life bleeding into art and vice versa. If I just go back to the moment when she finally couldn't hold in her emotions any longer and slammed the bowl onto the kitchen floor exclaiming the words DAMN, DAMN . DAMN it sent chills down my spine. Brought me to tears. 😢😢It's making my heart break as I type this message right now. My eyes are full and im fight them back now. i'm gonna have a little cry. Wow. Thank you Mr. Amos for reflecting on screen what a lot of us had at home or at least desired to if we didn't. R. i. P.
