Our spring/summer tennis tour is about to begin & that means it’s time to get our racquets ready for travel🙌🏼

We’ve been playing tennis for over 28 years & let’s just say our racquets have their own status on @americanairlines

We usually have a pretty packed schedule & hit the ground running, which means there’s not much time to get our racquets restrung or prepped before getting on court

Now before anyone says anything, yes we’ve played competitively our entire lives, yes we grew up training & playing against some of the pros you see on tour, yes we are well aware of how a professional athlete should travel with their racquets, but let’s be real, we’re not playing at Wimbledon. So for anyone looking to bring their racquet on their next trip, here are some of our go to tips that’ve worked for us over the last 20 years:

🪢 If you’re like us & going straight from the plane to the court, before you leave have your racquets restrung a few more lbs over what your normal tension would be. We usually do 4-6 lbs over, especially for long-haul flights. This is because string’s tension loosen on planes due to the extremes in temperature, especially if you check your racquets in.

🎾 We typically carry our racquets on with us in the plane & just check bag in. This can actually help reduce the loss of the tension, & in our experience almost all the airlines we’ve flown do not count it towards your carry on item.

➕We always bring extra strings & grip with us. While taking your racquets strung gets you on the court fast, if you plan on playing multiple times you may feel the strings loosen too much & you’ll want to get them restrung (or maybe you’ll pop your strings). Sometimes it’s hard to find your exact strings, especially outside the US. This will also save you time & money.

🤔Remember if you’re from the US & traveling internationally they string in kilograms, not pounds. 20 years of traveling for tennis & this still get us🤣🫠

Save this post for the next time you’re looking to take your racquets on a trip & let us know if these tips helped!
