China is turning scientists into public figures—and putting their faces on giant screens.

Across malls and public spaces, massive displays are featuring portraits of some of China’s most celebrated scientists instead of traditional commercial advertising.
The faces include rocket scientist Qian Xuesen, Nobel Prize winner Tu Youyou, and renowned agricultural scientist Yuan Longping.

The trend reportedly began in Shandong and has since appeared in other parts of the country, with some people even stopping to photograph the displays.

The message is clear: China is giving the people behind groundbreaking scientific achievements the kind of public recognition normally associated with actors, athletes, and social media stars.

Would you like to see more countries celebrate their scientists this way? 🤔💬
