Increasing protein intake has been the conversation for a long time and yes, protein matters. But honestly, I don’t think that’s the biggest issue in our community.
If you’re reading this, chances are you ate chicken last night… and maybe the night before too. Protein is not always where we’re falling short.
Where we are struggling is moving away from our traditional diets; diets that were naturally rich in plant fibre.
Whether you’re from the Caribbean or Africa, many of our traditional meals were built around fibre-rich foods: beans, lentils, greens, okra, plantain, roots, whole grains, fruits and seeds.
But today, we often build our plates around the starch and the protein and forget the fibre.

And fibre is the foundation that helps support our bodies:
🌱 Feeds our gut bacteria
🩸 Supports healthy blood sugar levels
🍽️ Helps us feel fuller for longer
🚽 Keeps us regular
⚖️ Supports healthy weight management

With obesity and metabolic health challenges affecting many in our communities, increasing fibre intake is one of the simplest and most powerful changes we can make.

Fibre gives our bodies something that appetite medications like GLP1S alone cannot replace - NOURISHMENT. It supports the systems that help us feel satisfied, energised and healthy.
I genuinely believe a fibre-rich diet can make you feel and look different. That “glow” comes from consistently nourishing your body from the inside out.
You don’t have to overhaul your whole diet overnight. Start small.
Add fibre to one meal and build from there.
Examples:
🍏Add boiled apples or pears to your porridge oats
🥗 Add a bean salad to your rice plate
🥑 Add avocado and vegetables to your favourite meals

What changes have you noticed in your body when you increased your fibre intake?
