• Keep It Contained⁠

Large pots, troughs, or even repurposed tubs can help keep its adventurous roots in check. For extra insurance, place containers on patios, decks, or other hard surfaces to prevent roots from escaping through drainage holes and speaking into nearby beds. ⁠

• Slow the Spread Naturally⁠
⁠
Mint thrives in moist, fertile soil, so one way to dampen its enthusiasm is to grow it a bit leaner. Drier conditions won’t completely prevent it from exploring, but it can slow it down. As a bonus, some growers believe that slightly stressed mint is more aromatic, resulting in a stronger fragrance and flavor. ⁠

• Work With Nature ⁠
⁠
If you have space to spare, consider letting mint roam in a meadow or informal planting area where its habit of spreading can be an asset rather than a problem. Just be aware that it may gradually navigate beyond its original spot. The payoff is a wonderfully fragrant landscape, especially after mowing when the scent of freshly crushed mint fills the air. ⁠
