September 8th is World Ampersand Day! Today honors the ampersand or “&” for its role in written language. The “&” symbol is a ligature for “et,” which is Latin for “and.” For today, Jared letterpress printed five different wood type ampersands of the French Clarendon typeface in our print shop ranging from 6 line pica (one inch) to 30 line pica (5 inches) in size. One ampersand has been trimmed, however, and appears different in the print. This was printed with purple oil base ink using our Washington hand press.  #SacHistoryMuseum #ampersand #museumtok #learnontiktok #printing
