The Focus RS head gasket story is the best thing that ever happened to used Focus RS buyers. Early 2016 and 2017 cars, 2.3 EcoBoost, a sealing issue at the gasket, coolant in a cylinder. Ford revised the gasket and covered the repair — so the scary failure has a date and a repair order. The Mk7 Golf R's bills aren't gone, they're just scheduled: Haldex fluid, DSG service, water pump and thermostat housing, walnut blasting. 350 hp, 350 lb-ft, manual only, GKN twin-clutch rear end. Ask for the receipt, then go drive it.
