DAY 2/10 🇬🇧🎓 YOUR FIRST WEEK IN THE UK

Moving to the UK for university is exciting… but your first week can also feel like absolute chaos. 😂

There’s so much to figure out that it’s easy to forget the basics.

So here are 5 things I’d recommend every international student does in Week 1:

1️⃣ COLLECT YOUR STUDENT ID 🎓
And while you’re there, take a walk around campus. Find your library, student services, lecture buildings, cafés etc. You’ll be spending A LOT of time here.

2️⃣ SORT YOUR NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER
If you’re planning to work in the UK, get your NI number sorted early. Your visa conditions determine whether you’re allowed to work and how many hours, the NI number itself is used for employment/payroll.

📞 National Insurance helpline: 0800 141 2079

3️⃣ SAVE THESE NUMBERS 📱
Save them NOW, not when you actually need them:

🚨 999 — Emergency
🏥 111 — NHS / urgent medical help
👮 101 — Police, non-emergency
🚨 112 — Emergency

🇮🇳 Indian students:
inf.london@mea.gov.in
High Commission of India, London (general enquiries)

4️⃣ OPEN A UK BANK ACCOUNT 💳
You’ll generally need:
• Proof of identity
• Valid immigration/visa status
• UK address

Also check your university, some have banks visiting campus during the first few weeks to help students open accounts.

5️⃣ TALK TO PEOPLE ❤️

THIS ONE IS SO IMPORTANT.

Everyone is new.

Everyone is figuring things out.

And a lot of people are probably feeling shy, overwhelmed and missing home, even if their Instagram stories make it look like they’re having the best time ever.

Talk to your flatmates.
Talk to your classmates.
Go to Freshers’ events.
Ask questions.
Say hello.

Your first week isn’t just about getting paperwork done. It’s about starting to build a life here.

And because I know how overwhelming that first week can be, I’ve put together a FREE Week 1 checklist with the things you need to get sorted.

👇 Comment “WEEK 1” and I’ll send it to your DMs.

Save this reel. Send it to your friend who’s moving to the UK this September. 🇬🇧
