#HipHopHistory - 32 years ago today, The Notorious B.I.G. dropped his legendary debut album, Ready to Die, on September 13, 1994. 💿👑

Released through Bad Boy Records, the partly autobiographical album introduced the world to Biggie’s vivid storytelling, effortless flow and larger-than-life personality, chronicling everything from the streets of Brooklyn to his rise toward fame.

The album delivered classics including “Juicy,” “Big Poppa” and “One More Chance,” eventually going 6× Platinum in the U.S. and helping bring East Coast hip-hop back to the forefront during an era dominated commercially by the West Coast.

Ready to Die would tragically become the only album Biggie released during his lifetime. He was killed in March 1997, just 16 days before the release of his second album, Life After Death.

Decades later, its legacy remains undeniable. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 22 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and No. 1 on its list of the greatest hip-hop albums. In 2024, the Library of Congress added Ready to Die to the National Recording Registry for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance.
