PMDD diary: Day 2

Today I feel like me.

And I’ve realised that’s actually the thing I want to track more than anything else this month.

Right now I’m happy. I’m motivated. I’m sociable. I want to train. I’m excited about work. I’ve got plans and I actually want to do them.

This is me.

But last month, when my PMDD hit, I remember looking at my life and almost not recognising the person living it.

So instead of waiting for that switch to happen again, I’m doing something I’ve never properly done before.

I’m documenting it.

Every day I’m scoring my mood, energy, sleep, stress, anxiety, irritability, cravings and motivation to train.

But I’ve added one question of my own:

HOW MUCH DO I FEEL LIKE ME? /10

Today?

I’d say 10/10.

And over the next few weeks I’m going to watch that number.

I’m also keeping an eye on my nutrition, protein, strength training, sleep, caffeine, alcohol, stress and where I am in my cycle.

I’m not doing this because I think being “perfect” will cure my PMDD.

I want to understand my patterns.

Maybe I’ll discover things that help.

Maybe I’ll discover things that don’t make a blind bit of difference.

Maybe I’ll have another awful month.

But this time I’ll have something more useful than trying to remember how I felt.

I’ll have a diary of what actually happened.

And I’m sharing it because I know there are women reading this who understand exactly what I mean when I say:

Some weeks I feel completely like myself.
Other weeks I don’t recognise her.

Let’s see what this month teaches me.
