## Caption

On September 11, 1911, Robert G. Fowler landed his early biplane at Agricultural Park, where the Boulevard Park neighborhood is located in Midtown Sacramento today, on his way to accomplish the first transcontinental flight coast-to-coast (in stages) from San Francisco to New York. He was greeted by a large crowd to see the aviator and the Wright Model B biplane with a Cole 30-horsepower 4-cylinder engine.

Fowler met with California Governor Hiram Johnson before leaving Sacramento. Fowler crashed his plane the next day while trying to land in Gold Run, CA. He was slightly injured, but the biplane was in disrepair. He finished his cross-country flight in February 1912.
