Florida State’s fall from the top of college football has been almost impossible to believe.

Less than three years ago, the Seminoles were 13–0, ACC Champions and one win away from completing an undefeated regular season before becoming the first undefeated Power Five champion to be left out of the College Football Playoff.

At the time, it felt like Mike Norvell had completely rebuilt Florida State.

Since then, almost everything has fallen apart.

After the infamous 63–3 Orange Bowl loss to Georgia ended the 2023 season, Florida State entered 2024 ranked No. 10 in the country with expectations of competing for another ACC Championship.

Instead, the Seminoles went 2–10.

FSU averaged only 15.4 points per game, finished 1–7 in ACC play and suffered its worst season since 1974.

The program hoped 2025 would be the turnaround.

Florida State opened the year by upsetting No. 8 Alabama and eventually climbed as high as No. 7 in the AP Poll.

Then the collapse started again.

FSU lost four consecutive games, eventually finished 5–7 and missed a bowl game for the second straight season.

Now 2026 was supposed to be another opportunity to finally fix things.

Instead, Florida State is already 1–1 after a 27–24 home loss to No. 19 SMU.

The Seminoles forced four turnovers and rushed for 199 yards, yet still allowed 585 total yards, including 430 through the air, while converting just 2-of-14 third downs.

The numbers since that undefeated 2023 regular season are staggering.

Florida State went 13–1 in 2023.

Since then, the Seminoles are just 8–18 across the 2024, 2025 and first two games of 2026 seasons.

And things aren’t getting any easier.

After the bye week, Florida State travels to Tuscaloosa to face No. 12 Alabama, with road games against No. 25 Louisville and No. 7 Miami waiting later in the season.

In December 2023, Florida State looked like it had officially returned to the elite of college football.

Less than three years later, Mike Norvell is fighting to save his job and the Seminoles are once again trying to figure out how everything fell apart so quickly.
