#PeopleofJSU: “Being here at Jackson State made me realize that I can’t control every detail of my life. I had to let go and trust God’s plan for me.

When I arrived at JSU in 2022, I was drawn in by its STEM program, my cousin’s legacy and the warmth of the student ambassadors who made campus feel like home.

I enrolled as a computer science major aiming for a career in cybersecurity; however, my sophomore year changed the trajectory of my journey. I struggled with my classes, felt isolated and questioned whether college was even right for me.

Then, during the summer after my sophomore year, I discovered my true passion: creativity and digital storytelling. I officially switched my major to marketing, and my entire college experience transformed.

Channeling my love for graphic design and social media, I finally hit my stride. I served as the Social Media Coordinator for the Girls Coalition, revived our campus chapter of the American Marketing Association as its President, worked on the media team for men’s basketball and became a Red Bull Student Marketeer.

Stepping into these roles pushed me out of my shell and helped me grow into the leader I am today. I currently serve as the Vice President of Promotions for the Campus Activities Board (CAB), leading a team of nine other students to drive campus engagement, create promotional media and execute events.

As I prepare to graduate, I’m looking forward to a career in creative marketing and commercial advertising. 

My time at JSU taught me resilience, alignment, and the firm belief that every closed door eventually makes room for something greater.”
