Today, in loving memory, we are crowning journalist & social activist Gloria Steinem as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑

One of the most visible & passionate leaders of the women’s equality movement, Gloria Marie Steinem was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1934 to a humble childhood. She went on to study government at Smith College where she took an interest in journalism and grassroots activism.

After graduating, she started her professional career as a journalist in New York, writing freelance pieces on political campaigns and progressive social issues. Eventually, in 1968, she co-founded New York Magazine and Ms. Magazine just four years later, becoming an independent, regular circulation magazine.

She became increasingly more passionate about women’s rights stemming from her own experience with gender discrimination. She led marches, toured the country as a public speaker and in 1971, contributed to forming the National Women’s Political Caucus. Other organizations she founded include the Ms. Foundation for Women, the Free to Be Foundation, and the Women’s Media Center in the United States.

In 2013, she earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor for her contribution to society as an award-winning author, lecturer, and changemaker.

Steinem passed away on September 2, 2026 at the age of 92. She dedicated her life to justice in gender equality, reproductive rights, and women’s representation, leaving a profound impact on our world today.

Thank you, Queen, for your leadership, unrelenting drive, and advocacy for women everywhere. 💜 #SIXBroadway #SIXUSTour
