Chris Johnson isn’t asking for more yards, more records or another football season. He just wants more TIME. 

The former NFL All-Pro running back is opening up about his life with ALS in a deeply emotional Sports Illustrated digital cover story, giving fans a look at the man behind the legendary “CJ2K” nickname.

Johnson, who once ran for more than 2,000 yards in a single season, is now facing a disease that has rapidly changed nearly every part of his daily life. He can no longer speak or walk without significant assistance, and he relies on a breathing machine and an eye-controlled communication device.

His wife, Brittany, is now his full-time caregiver, while their three children are navigating a reality none of them expected. Chris used to be the dad on the sidelines, coaching, exercising with his kids and showing up for their games.

And through all of it, Johnson says what he wants most is simple: more time with the people he loves.

His story is a powerful reminder that behind every athlete, every accomplishment and every highlight reel is a person with a family, dreams and a life beyond the game.
